Summer Camp Recap

July 28, 2022
Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum hosts 3 summer stem programs

Each year, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum hosts 3 summer programs welcoming students of all ages to explore STEM, aviation, and history on America’s WWII aviation battlefield!

Explorers Club, Flight School for Boys, and Flight School for Girls offer students the opportunity to explore a future as a pilot, mechanic, technician, aerospace engineer, and the many other inspiring careers in aviation. In the current climate of pilot and aviation professional shortages, it is essential for students to explore new opportunities and concepts as they open the door to their future.

At the Museum, “We love to see young people interested in a career choice important to them and our community. It isn’t just a fun and cool thing to do, although it is very fun, it also leads to a lifetime of rewarding work and service to your community.” – William Spincola, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum Education Manager

Here is a look at some of fun moments from our 2022 summer STEM camps!

Explorers Club

During Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum’s Galaxy Quest Explorers Club, students were able to explore aviation and aim for the stars!

Students learned STEM and aviation concepts while completing a variety of fun hands-on activities including pre-flight checks on real aircraft, creating and testing their own rockets, designing an alien, designing and building rovers, and much more! Take a look some of the fun below!

Flight School For Boys

Flight School for Boys provided students the opportunity to explore the world of aviation and take control of their destiny as they learned what it takes to become a pilot, aircraft mechanic, technician, aerospace engineer, and more.

Students had the opportunity to break codes to win the Battle of Midway, plan and fly in a mission from Honolulu to Barbers Point in our flight simulators, learn to rivet, and sit in the cockpits of real aircraft. Check out some fun images below!

Flight School for Girls

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum was excited to host our Flight School for Girls introducing girls to the endless opportunities and experiences that a future in aviation and STEM can provide.

Students not only explored the principles of flight and aeronautics, they learned how and why we fly, the history of aviation, learned dead reckoning, planned a flight path, completed a preflight check, and took to the skies in flight simulators. Take a look at some of the fun below!

Education at Pearl Harbor

In the direction of our mission, the Museum works to honor the past by educating and inspiring generations to come through Education Programs such as these. Our summer camps, field trips, and webinars aim to guide students to dream and own their destiny – become the pilot in command.

Although summer has come to an end, the Museum’s education team offers a variety of fieldtrips, youth programs, virtual classroom visits, webinars, scholarships, and resources to explore. Come explore the possibilities!
