Background
Our Skyhawk began her career aboard the USS Ranger with VA-55 on 31 August 1965. In 1966, she transferred to VA-125 and then to VA-155. In 1968, she became a Marine with VMA-211 and spent a tour in Vietnam at Chu Lai. She left Vietnam in 1970, transferring to NAS Iwakuni in Japan. Her respite was brief, returning to Bien Hoa in 1971 for another tour in Vietnam, before returning to Iwakuni in 1972. In 1974, she moved to NAS Cubi Point in the Philippines, before spending 10 years at Willow Grove, PA with VMA-131 and MAG-49. In 1987, she would be sent to Miramar, spending two years at the Naval Fighter Weapons School as “TOPGUN 57”. Her final years were spent with VC-1 at Barbers Point.
